Nicollet Island Rowhouses
The Eastman Flats. These beautiful stone row houses were built in the mid-1800s by the developer and industrialist William Eastman in an attempt to attract wealthy homeowners to Nicollet Island on the Mississippi River adjacent to downtown Minneapolis. For a short period the island was a busy residential/commercial/industrial area and there were dozens of these row houses stretching across the island. Now however just this one section remains with its terrific cobblestone sidewalk in front. They are highly desired homes. After all, how great would it be to be one of the few that live on an island on the Mississippi River?!
