Pillsbury “A” Mill Alley
The Pillsbury A Mill is a beautiful, classic old flour Mill from the heyday of Minneapolisâ âFlour Milling Capital of the Worldâ days. The front of the mill is very well known and often Instagrammed, but those of us that live in the neighborhood know thereâs a delightful alley behind thatâs worth a âcut throughâ when walking the area. Itâs an alley with giant metal pieces of the old milling machinery on display and other delightful oddities, the most mysterious being the double skyway a few stories above the ground connecting the A-Mill with another building, probably an associated storage silo.
Although it was probably a conveyor belt-fed flower transporting system, I like to imagine the old mill workers sliding within them using burlap flour bags as sleds.
